All adhesive tapes are harmed by

  • light,
  • dust,
  • UV radiation,
  • excessive heat and coldness.

Two important terms in the printing of adhesive as well as non-adhesive tapes are the positive and the negative printing.

Positive printing of tapes

It can best be explained on the example of a simple letter. If we want to print the letter A using positive printing, the letter A will remain elevated on the printing plate and the entire remaining area will be lowered, so that during printing, only the letter is immersed in colour and this colour is transferred to the printed material, which then looks for example like a sheet of paper in a book.

Negative printing of tapes

It follows logically from this that in case of the so-called negative printing, the letter A will be engraved in the printing plate so that during printing, the entire remaining area will be immersed in colour and only the area of the letter A will remain without colour.

A standard adhesive tape best adheres in case of common warehouse, workshop or office temperature up to a minimum of 18°C. If temperature decreases below this level, it is possible that adhesives may gradually harden and thus also adhere less. If you need an adhesive tape for lower temperatures, because your warehouses are not heated, we recommend for example adhesive tapes with hot melt adhesive or even so-called freezer tapes, which are intended for cold storage warehouses with up to -20°C.

Dear customers,

Our aim is to maintain the highest quality in proportion to the selling price. During the printing of adhesive tapes, various colours are applied to various foil materials. We continually test the foils and colours of our permanent suppliers as well as other suppliers, in order to be able to always manufacture the best product for you, our customers. We generally recommend ordering a supply for approximately 6 months. Longer storage of the tape may cause its devaluation.

  • Polypropylene (BOPP) – ecological, with an advantageous price, withstands even temperatures above 50°C well, the used strength of foil is 25 to 32 microns.
  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – good mechanical properties, the used strength of foil is 28 to 37 microns.
  • Paper – ecological, anti-aging, worse mechanical properties, weight approx. 60 g / m².

For ideal preparation of graphic design, we need data in vectors.   The filenames extensions are: CDR (Corel Draw), AI or EPS (Adobe  Illustrator), or PDF (Acrobat). If you do not have data in such files, send us everything you have and we will process the data. According to the scope of adjustments and the time they demand, we will arrange with you an increase of the resulting price by this work.

The print on the coloured background may not be the same as your requested shade. However, we try to do our best. However sometimes, it is necessary to choose a bit different shade than the one in the logo manual.

When taping up slotted boxed, overlap the tape to 1/3 of the side of the box (12 cm at minimum), in case of strong boxes prolong the overlap proportionally, the overlap and the above-mentioned pressure in application to the cardboard and subsequent smoothing by hand over the entire surface of the tape will prevent natural pressures in the box to cause its unsticking.

They best taping up is when the adhesive tape is applied all around the box (if, of course, the size and weight of the box permits).

For price and quality reasons, the following types of adhesive have become established for packaging tapes:

Acrylate

Acrylate adhesive is probably the most common adhesive nowadays and has very wide use. It can be used for standard taping up of packages and consignments. It is an ecological adhesive with good functioning for application temperatures above 18°C – 25°C, but applicable already in temperatures from 0 – approximately 60°C. This is a water-based acrylate dispersion and thanks to the properties of acryl, the adhesive never “bleeds” outside the tape – we evaluate it as the “cleanest” and suitable for long-term use even with higher temperatures of stored goods. We do not recommend use in low temperatures. After application, the adhesive resists exposition to UV radiation (long-term stay in the sun) and oxidation well. For quality tack, we use adhesive with bond strength of 21 microns. Compared to solvent or hot melt adhesive acrylate adhesive achieves its highest tack only after several hours. Tapes with acrylate adhesive Hot melt – Hot melt is an adhesive on the basis of synthetic rubber, which has the primary advantage of adhering immediately with exceptional strength. Processing takes place in molten state, and thus contains no solvents. It adheres to the taped up material easily and forms a firm connection quickly, which can only be taken apart in case of visible damage to the box. The adhesive can also be applied in greater cold from 15°C – 21°C, and once applied, it then adheres in temperatures from 0 – 40°C. It resists UV radiation worse. For quality tack, we use adhesive with bond strength of 18 microns.

Solvent

Solvent is historically the oldest adhesive. It can basically be said that when applied, it adheres from negative temperatures up to approximately -30 °C to positive up to approximately 70°C. It simply adheres, where other adhesives fail, but it is always necessary to apply the tape in temperatures above approximately 15°C to 25°C. Its production is non-ecological, though, because here natural rubber is diluted with organic solvents. While this enables attested use for example in the food industry, where there is grease and coldness, some other adhesives already have these properties as well. We use high tack and a wide range of use for example in the production of laminated labels for industrial use, which resist frost and mechanical burdening with this adhesive for example on gas cylinders. The adhesive remains on taped up materials, which means that it cannot be removed without traces. For quality tack, we use adhesive with bond strength of 21 microns.

Silent

For the customers, for whom the loudness of tape unrolling when wrapping up consignments is an important criterion, but they do not wish to use the less ecological PVC tape, there is the option of BOPP printed adhesive tape with modified acrylate adhesive called “low-noise” or “silent”. It unroll much more silently than a classic tape with acrylate adhesive and many of our clients prefer it due to better adhesive properties as well as protection of the health of their employees. The application temperature of the tape is the same as in case of acrylate adhesive, between 18-25°C, but the tape then adheres in temperatures from -10°C to approximately 60°C.

Our adhesive tapes are intended for taping up all commonly used packaging materials – but these must be clean, dry and non-greasy (materials with very coarse surface and special plastic materials (for example teflon) cannot be taped up with adhesive tapes, the vapours from diluents worsen the properties of adhesives).

What is actually the difference between an adhesive tape made of polypropylene (PP) and a tape made of PVC? And if you know the difference, can you recognize the tapes, too?

Why is this important? Because these tapes have fundamental qualitative differences.  For a regular consumer, there is probably not much point in considering this, but for you as a professional consignor, the selection of the right adhesive tape is fundamental.

Are you interested in shade of background adhesive tape?

We present Pantone shades, but it is important to note that the color of the tape will not be the same on the white box or brown.

Many printed materials, such as for example PE and PP, has a chemically inert and non-porous surface with low surface tension.

Due to this, no bonds are created here with colours, protective coats or adhesives. In order for the adhesive or the colour to adhere to the foil, it is necessary to pre-treat the foil, for example with corona treatment. Materials such as polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, vinyl, PVC, PET, metal-coated surfaces, foil, but also paper and cardboard are usually treated using this method.

Corona charging needs to be set up according to the thickness of the foil, and some foils a charged several times. In flexo printing, a material is used with the adhesive already applied, which also only adheres to the foil because it was previously corona charged. Before printing, the tape is charged again from the other side, where the adhesive was not applied, and it is printed.

In case of any printing, here, too, problems may occur, when one charging, for example, overrides another and either the adhesive does not adhere to the take, or the second charging before printing is too weak and the adhesive pulls down the entire print.

In case of sandwich printing, a similar problem may occur, when the voltage disappears from the foil between the printing and the subsequent application of adhesive and the adhesive does not adhere well.

The strength of the charge of course depends on the thickness of the foil, and hard though we may try, on an area of several thousand square metres, minimal variations in thickness may appear during production. These variations cannot be measured by a mere eye, but a tiny variation always appears during printing.
